The OSI Group is an old company by modern standards, started way back in 1909. It first started business under the name Otto&Sons and quickly got attention for being a quality meat supplier. The company hit the jackpot in 1955 when it was selected by McDonalds to be its sole supplier of ground beef for their burgers.
As McDonald’s fortunes grew so did OSI’s and the company never looked back. Today The company has approximately 20,000 employees, 60 facilities in 16 countries, and does in excess of $6 billion in sales each year.
The company has come a long way from just being a meat supplier. It has expanded nationally and globally as a major food provider. OSI Group works with restaurants large and small to bring interesting and innovative food products from the farm to the table. The secret of their success is the backing of first rate infrastructure, financial resources and entrepreneurial passion coupled with innovative ways in helping customers to make wise choices for their business. The Customers of OSI Group know that they can count on the companies knowledge of not only local flavours but from world wide cuisine, their ability to tailor products to the customers specifications and most important of all a commitment to food safety and security.
Recently OSI made some good news by buying a former meat plant owned by Tyson, in Chicago. This is a 200,000 square foot facility located in the Back of the Yards neighbourhood. The Tyson plant was going out of business, so when OSI bought it, many of its employees will be able to retain their jobs. Obviously, this is good news for the former employees of Tyson.
Other big news for OSI include the winning of the prestigious “Globe of Honour” of the British Safety Council. This was given for OSI’s good work in managing environmental risks. Getting this award is no joke because just getting qualified requires proving to a council that they have taken steps necessary to create a clean and healthy environment, from shop floor to executive offices.
